Around the Area

We understand.  Sometimes you need to break up all that peace and quiet with a trip into town, or a different activity.

This area has no shortage of things to do.  Here are just a few suggestions.

Downtown Charlottesville

Charming pedestrian mall, filled with local shops and restaurants.  Plenty of outdoor dining, art, and street music.  Be sure to stop in to Timberlake's Drug Store and soda fountain for an authentic 1940s "lunch counter" experience.

Maybelle's Market

Within a 12 minutes' drive from Twin Locust Farm, you'll find write-home-about-it sandwiches and local products at Maybelle's Market, attached to a BP station.

No, really.

Our Lady of the Angels

A lovely Trappist/Cisterican Monastery in Crozet.  The nuns support themselves by making Dutch gouda cheese.  Join the nuns for public Sunday Mass at 8am.

Monticello

Explore Monticello, the home of our fascinating (and yes, controversial) third US President, Thomas Jefferson. After serving as the first US Ambassador to France, Mr. Jefferson developed a taste for wine, and planted a vineyard back at home.  There have been award-winning wineries (and breweries!) in this area ever since.
